THE FUTURO OF CHARLES WILP

Charles Wilp

Rooftop Futuro Germany One of the more ecclectic owners of a Futuro was the artist/musician Charles Wilp of Düsseldorf Germany. He put his Futuro on the roof of his home there. It was visted by the likes of Andy Warhol, Christo, and the Kuwaiti Royal family.

According to the Ata Tak Music website... "the ufo he built on the roof of his Rhineside home in Wittlaer near Düsseldorf. This is now used as a chill-out station by researchers in the Arctic" -- anyone have any additional information on this?

"Apartment with Flying Saucer for Roof A man's home may be his castle but Charles Wilp, described as a top German art photographer, is having his housing problems in Wittler, where his specially designed lounge apartment tops the roof garden of his home. Authorities don't share his enthusiasm for his flying saucer pad and have ordered it to be dismantled. The fact that the plastic retreat is the joint creation of Bulgarian wrapping artist Christo and United States artist Claes Oldenburg hasn't moved some of the authorities. Even though a German court agreed that the 13-foot-high and 26-foot-wide saucer had a certain artistic value, it ruled that it was a construction (or building) and thus it comes under German building laws. Wilp hasn't given up. He's appealing to a higher court." . Quoted from: Corbis.
